What is included in the ticket?

The Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket is the most comprehensive combined ticket in the region. It covers three major transport networks simultaneously—city, region, and airport connection.

🚆

NS train from Schiphol Airport

The train journey between Schiphol and Amsterdam Centraal is included—no single ticket, no surcharge. Redeem your voucher immediately after landing and be on your way.

Amsterdam Public Transport (GVB)

🚋

Trams

All GVB tram lines within the city area, unlimited rides.

🚌

Buses

The complete GVB bus network in Amsterdam.

🚇

Subways

All GVB metro lines, including the North-South connection.

⛴️

Ferries

GVB ferries across the IJ to Amsterdam-Noord, free for pedestrians anyway, also relevant for cyclists with a ticket.

Regional Buses & Trains

🚍

Connexxion & R-Net

Regional buses to Haarlem, Zandvoort, Volendam, Marken, Edam.

🚌

Amazon Elastic Block Store

Regional buses northeast of Amsterdam, including Waterland.

🌷

Keukenhof Express (Line 852)

Direct bus from Schiphol to Keukenhof during tulip season.

🚆

NS trains in the region

Trains to stations in the regional area, including Schiphol, Haarlem, and Zaandam (Sprinter and Intercity).

What is NOT included?

The Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket is already very comprehensive—but it doesn't cover everything. Here are the points you should know before booking.

🚄

Long-distance transport outside the region

NS Intercity trips to cities outside the regional area — for example, Utrecht, Rotterdam, The Hague, or Eindhoven — are not included.

🚢

Tourist boats

Canal cruises, hop-on hop-off boats, and private ferries are separate offerings and not included in the ticket.

🎟️

Admissions & Attractions

Museums, Keukenhof entrance, Zaanse Schans Museum, and other attractions must be booked separately.

🧒

Children's tickets

There are generally no discounted child tickets. Children under 4 years old travel for free when accompanied.

If you are only traveling within the city of Amsterdam and are not planning any trips outside the city, cheaper alternatives are often a better fit: GVB Ticket Amsterdam (city only) or Amsterdam Travel Ticket (City + Schiphol Transfer).

Here's how it works

Three steps from purchase to your first ride. Important: The Region Travel Ticket is a voucher — you exchange it at a service point for a physical chip card (OV-Chipkaart).

1

Book online

Choose the duration (1, 2, or 3 days) and book securely through GetYourGuide. You'll receive the voucher immediately by email.

2

Redeem voucher

Exchange the voucher for a chip card at one of the locations listed below. Please note: Not every train station in the region is an issuing office — for example, you cannot get one in Haarlem.

3

Check-in & check-out

Hold the chip card to the scanner when boarding and alighting – trains, trams, buses, metros, and ferries. Without a check-out, the journey is not correctly completed.

💡 The validity begins with the first check-in and ends at 4:00 AM on the morning after the last valid day (depending on whether you have a 1-, 2-, or 3-day ticket). A day begins at midnight. You cannot select a start time when booking – the ticket only becomes active when you check in for the first time.

Who is the Regional Travel Ticket worthwhile for?

The most extensive combo ticket in the region — but not the best choice for everyone.

Ideal if you…

  • You land at Schiphol Airport and want to go directly to Amsterdam
  • you live outside the city (Haarlem, Hoofddorp, Zaanstad) and commute daily
  • Trips to Keukenhof, Zaanse Schans, Volendam, or Marken are planned
  • to the beach of Zandvoort or Bloemendaal
  • Flexibility instead of single tickets
  • spending 2 to 3 days in the Amsterdam region

Not ideal if you…

  • only traveling in the city of Amsterdam
  • only from the airport to the city and not planning any excursions
  • to cities outside the region (Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam)
  • stay longer than 3 days
  • mostly travel on foot or by bicycle

What do other travelers say?

Real reviews from customers who booked the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket via GetYourGuide.

★★★★★

Best option for exploring the wonderful city of Amsterdam and its surroundings. The ticket is valid for all means of transport. Not only is the city covered, it even extends to the beach via Haarlem, to the airport, and even further. Public transport is very punctual and the network is extremely well-developed. Simply top.

We had accommodation in Haarlem and decided to go with the Regional Ticket to have flexibility getting to Amsterdam. The ticket needs to be picked up first – we did this on our way there at Bijlmer, because it’s only possible at selected stations (not in Haarlem, for example – you need to know this beforehand). Once picked up, the tickets make you super flexible. We would do it this way again anytime.

The ticket is ideal if you don't live directly in the city and want to use the train to transfer from your hotel to the city. Additionally, day trips to the coast or Keukenhof are already included. Airport transfer is also included - you can redeem the voucher at the airport.

Ideal ticket for tourists. We were able to reach everything easily by bus, streetcar and train. As we lived outside Amsterdam in the vacation home, we were even able to use the Sprinter and Intercity.

Tanja · Germany · April 2025
★★★★★

When you come from Germany, the train service in the Netherlands is just awesome. Even the rail replacement service is super well organized. Truly top-notch.

Seen a lot of Amsterdam in two days. The public transport network in Amsterdam and the region is well-developed.
