What is included in the GVB ticket?

The GVB ticket covers the entire local transport network of the Gemeentelijk Vervoerbedrijf (GVB) in Amsterdam — unlimited rides for the entire period of validity.

🚊

All GVB Trams

All tram lines in Amsterdam, including the touristically popular lines 2, 5, 13, and 17.

🚌

All GVB buses

City buses throughout Amsterdam — ideal for reaching neighborhoods beyond the tram lines as well.

🚇

All metro lines

Lines 50, 51, 52, 53, and 54 — often the fastest connection between the center, south, and north.

⛴️

GVB Ferries

Free ferries across the IJ to Amsterdam-Noord (e.g., to NDSM, EYE Filmmuseum, A'DAM Tower).

♾️

Unlimited rides

Hop on as often as you like—no ride limits, no zone surcharges within Amsterdam.

🌙

Night buses

The GVB night bus lines are also included—perfect for late returns from restaurants or clubs.

What is NOT included?

So there are no surprises at the platform: The GVB ticket is only valid within the GVB network in Amsterdam. You will need an additional ticket for these connections.

NS Trains (also Schiphol Airport)

The national trains of Nederlandse Spoorwegen are not included — not even the Schiphol ↔ Amsterdam Centraal line. The Amsterdam Travel Ticket is suitable for this.

Regional buses (Connexxion, EBS, Arriva)

Buses outside the GVB network—for example, to Zaanse Schans, Volendam, or Haarlem—are not covered.

Keukenhof Express & Airport Shuttles

The Keukenhof Express (Line 852) and other private shuttles are sold separately.

Canal Tours & Water Taxis

Tourist canal boats, hop-on hop-off boats, and water taxis are not part of the GVB network.

💡 Do you need an airport transfer or excursions in the region? Then the following tickets are the better choice: Amsterdam Travel Ticket Or Amsterdam and Region Travel Ticket.

Here's how it works

In three simple steps from purchase to your first drive—no waiting in line, no paperwork.

1

Book online

Choose the duration (1 to 7 days) and book securely through GetYourGuide. Payment by credit card, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay, or Google Pay possible.

2

Digital ticket received

The ticket will be sent to your email and on your phone in the GetYourGuide app immediately after booking. No printing, no pick-up.

3

Check-in & check-out

Hold the QR code up to the scanner at the door or turnstile when boarding. Don't forget to check out when you get off – only then will your trip be correctly completed.

💡 The validity begins at the time you selected when booking – not at the first check-in. You can therefore conveniently book the ticket in advance and set the start date yourself.

Validity & Prices

The GVB ticket is available in seven different durations. Validity begins at the time selected during booking and then runs continuously — 24, 48, 72 hours, and so on.

What travelers say about the GVB ticket

Over 43,000 reviews on GetYourGuide — average 4.2 out of 5 stars. Here's a selection of real customer testimonials.

★★★★★

„Great that you can use so many trains, trams, and buses, and even the ferry. Only one train was very crowded; otherwise, there was always plenty of space. I was only irritated by the fact that you also have to check out.“

Anke · Germany · April 2026
★★★★★

„The ticket definitely makes sense for Amsterdam city center. It even saves a bit more if you use it over several days. It's definitely a good option if you don't want to walk everywhere.“

Marvin · Germany · April 2026
★★★★★

„It was great, especially because you always had the ticket with you and didn't have to think about whether it was still valid for that day or not!“

Lisa-Maria · Austria · April 2026

„With the GVB ticket, you could get around everywhere easily and uncomplicatedly.“

Jolante · Germany · January 2026

„Very good. The additional installation of the GVB app was not necessary. The ticket worked without any problems with the GetYourGuide app.“

Jörg · Germany · March 2026
★★★★★

„Since we wanted to go directly to the train station by bus, it was great to already have a ticket. Everything was uncomplicated and easy, we would always buy it again.“

Frequently Asked Questions about GVB Tickets

When does my GVB ticket become valid?
Validity begins at the time you selected during booking, not at the first check-in. From this point, the ticket runs continuously for 24, 48, 72 hours, and so on.
Is the ticket also valid for the route from Schiphol Airport?
No. The Schiphol ↔ Amsterdam Centraal train route is operated by NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) and is not included in the GVB ticket. If you want to book the airport transfer, the Amsterdam Travel Ticket is the suitable alternative.
Do I really have to check out when I get off?
Yes. The check-in/check-out principle applies to all GVB means of transport — hold your QR code to the scanner when boarding and alighting. Only then will your journey be correctly completed. Forgetting to check out can lead to incorrect bookings.
Do I need a separate GVB app?
The ticket must be used in the GetYourGuide app on your phone. A printout or a saved QR code on your phone is not permitted—the GetYourGuide app is mandatory. However, you do not need an additional GVB app.
Are there discounts for children?
There are no child tickets for the GVB ticket on GetYourGuide. Children under 4 years old travel free when accompanied by an adult. For children between 4 and 11 years old, there is only the discounted one-day ticket available – and this is only directly from GVB, not through GetYourGuide. Multi-day tickets are not available at a reduced price for children.
Can I cancel the ticket for free?
Yes. With GetYourGuide, you can cancel the GVB ticket free of charge up to 24 hours before its validity begins and receive a full refund. As long as you haven't activated it yet, nothing will be lost.
Does the ticket also apply to night buses?
Yes. All regular GVB night bus lines are included in the ticket — perfect for late returns from restaurants, concerts, or clubs.
Is the GVB ticket worth it, or are single tickets cheaper?
A single GVB ticket costs €3.40. From the third trip of the day, the 1-day GVB ticket is already worthwhile. For longer stays, the savings per day increase — the 7-day ticket costs the equivalent of only about €6.14 per day.
